Nikita Shokhov
Artist in the Studio
Artist in the Studio features an interactive artwork by immersive video artist Nikita Shokhov. The exhibition includes a web-based mobile AR experience exploring the human condition in modern technology. This spatial cinematic perspective gives a unique opportunity to witness Shokhov’s ideation process as the artist’s hologram invites the audience to virtually explore his studio at the moment of creative conceptualization.
Artist in the Studio was created in collaboration with Ksenia Kadi.
“Visual art for me is a way to study the human condition in the 21st century applying emerging technologies. I use different media from photography to immersive environments…pushing the boundaries of what documentary means at a particular moment…as a way to study different social phenomena.”
— Nikita Shokhov

Artist’s Statement About the Work
Ever wondered what an artist channeling in the studio looks like? This spatial cinematic experience gives you a unique opportunity to witness my ideation process. My hologram invites the audience to virtually explore my studio in Brooklyn at the moment of creative conceptualization of my new artwork about the human condition in modern technology: quantum computing, machine learning, and human genome editing. You can read fragments of the dialogue with my higher self or, generally speaking, my unconscious. You will find yourself in a true-scale Metaverse version of my studio during the International Studio and Curatorial Program (ISCP) artist residency in 2023.
